I had emails dating back to about 1999 until a bug in Mozilla Thunderbird in about 2008 resulted in them being synchronized with an empty SMTP account. Not in the good way. "Take backups," they said. That's exactly what I was *trying* to do. I'm obviously still bitter.

You're right. What doesn't work is *holding* your finger over the blue dot with increasing precision, until you figure it's not worth the effort...
