The earliest email I can find in my records is from June 16, 2004. I'm a bit surprised, I thought I'd archived them for longer.
I had emails dating back to about 1999 until a bug in Mozilla Thunderbird in about 2008 resulted in them being synchronized with an empty SMTP account. Not in the good way. "Take backups," they said. That's exactly what I was *trying* to do. I'm obviously still bitter.

This could be me, but I created backups before Thunderbird managed to eat the mails.
