I'm not sure how to respond to this. I've really tried hard to be inclusive, and Scala World pays all the travel costs of its speakers, and the conference makes a loss which I cover. Yes, I am at almost all Scala conferences, but I pay for myself about 80% of the time.https://twitter.com/katrinsh/status/938433075306008576 …
"The Scala Community" is a nebulous concept, but it's the people who work with Scala and the interactions between them. I emphasise the connections because I consider the more connected people to be a greater part of the community than those who simply work with it for a day-job.

You suggest that "The Scala Community" is ill-defined concept? I thought it is "fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common
#Scala language and eco-system interests". So your take on community is you have to be "connected" in order to be part of it? -
@katrinsh I’m curious how would you ensure diversity at a conference?

Jon, I would urge you to include day jobbers because they could potentially make amazing contributions but can’t participate in online fora for various reasons. One way is to reach out to companies using Scala & encourage them to send devs.
