My talk at
@scala_io ended with my code basically the same speed as Shapeless...and then I just hacked at it for the weekend...
But once I realised that the codegen size (as a blunt measure of complexity) was the problem, I just looked for deduplication opportunities.

Ah yes, I'm pretty sure duplicated implicit searches is what kills my compile times - I'm sure there is a way to cache these searches better
