Yeah, adverbs do seem to be the most pliable part of speech.

In school you learn rules for adverb order, they don't seem IME to actually be true as taught though.

I've seen examples where you can float an adverb (e.g. "only") anywhere amongst the other words, and the meaning becomes quite different.
