Two-word names are in general funnier than one-word names.
I hypothesize that this may be a uniquely German fetish... Long, compound placenames are much funnier to me!

Germany has hardly any two-word town names, so presumably that's what makes it funny.

I don't know... Bad Kissingen, Bad Ems and Bad Wildbad sound funny to me. Bad Aachen sounds like a medical condition.
