Are you aware of Dotty's syntactic sugar for enums?
Thanks, Simon. It's less ambitious than Dotty's enum, but that's not necessarily a criticism; it just makes some comparisons a bit unfair.

Next time I find myself looking at enums in Dotty, I'll do a side-by-side comparison. Not this week, though...

Issues are not resolved by adding more features, they are addressed by dropping features until only the essence remains. 4 years of lessons.

This, I think, is an overgeneralization. There's plenty of selective evidence to support this "lesson" but we can also find counterexamples.

Idea of this was to fix an issue while adding close to zero footprint. It looks less ambitious because that's the core design requirement.

I understand. It's just that Dotty enums are a "disaster" at solving this task only insofar as Scala is a disaster as, say, an XML checker.

For comparison, this is the spec draft of enums from 2014 before I started cutting down on feature & lang footprint: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mIKml4sJzezL_-iDJMmcAKmavHb9axjYJos_7UMlWJ8/edit?usp=sharing …
