I finally managed to book an Uber, but it drove in the opposite direction from me, and has been stationary 3km away for about 10 mins now.

I had something similar yesterday, had to cancel and order another one :(
Did you get charged a cancellation fee? I was charged £4. Small enough not to be worth the effort of contesting.

they charged me like 10PLN (~2£), but since I couldn't even contact the driver they gave me a refund immediately when I asked for one

When you contest in the app it automatically refunds you, no human involved (for the $2 fees in SF at least)

Thanks - I managed it eventually. The website has a bug which meant it kept trying to refund one of the earlier (no fee) cancellations...
