      .@propensive Add a type parameter and I'd be all for it—"…and this import changes your return types" just sounds like a joke about Scala. :)

      @travisbrown I think it's just a familiarity thing. Imports can affect a lot of different things, so why not return types?

      @propensive It's about picking battles. People get burned by implicit magic, are less receptive to more valuable / principled applications.

      @travisbrown Yes, I agree. It was definitely a conscious decision to go all-in with "powerful" imports in Rapture's design. :)

      @travisbrown I basically felt I could do more interesting things this way, accepting the cost that users would need to be educated...

          @propensive Fair enough! I just wish we had more concrete ways of evaluating these kinds of design decisions.
