      @d6 Shouldn't a surfeit of supply on the second-hand bike market mean they're so cheap it's not worth it for thieves to keep stealing them?

      @propensive Well, if more and more people start riding bikes the demand would be growing. Also bikes get old, get wrecked, etc.

      @propensive I also think often bike thieves just end up riding bikes themselves (as in this case).

      @d6 Main issue was reconciling: 1. Most people I know own a bike they bought new. 2. Most people have had at least one bike stolen.
