@propensive I’ve heard it enough times that I’d like to submit “Not as hellish as I expected” as SBT’s new official slogan.

@JoeZulli It's only partly SBT's fault. Build systems are difficult! But there are a lot of things it could have done better...

@propensive Definitely. But to your point, for all its flaws, I'd still pick SBT over any other build tool that I've personally ever used.

@JoeZulli I *have* (reluctantly) picked SBT. But I still want to write a BT which is more S (if only there were time...) ;)

@JoeZulli Apart from a brief dalliance with Maven I've used Make for years. Only since my dependencies got harder was SBT the better choice.

@propensive Make! A wise choice. I also had a brief dalliance with Maven, along with Ant and Gradle. Gradle was interesting.

.@JoeZulli Ah yes, I used Ant about 12 years ago... It was a lot like writing a Makefile in XML!

@JoeZulli And I actually use Gradle at work, though I just press some buttons on the black box and sometimes it does stuff.
