The thing I have to look up every time: how to populate a Git repo's submodule directories after I've cloned it without --recursive-submodules. What's the thing you have to look up every time?

git worktree add path branch or git worktree add branch path ?
I did learn to put paths after a double-dash in the event of any doubt. Works all the time, except when I can't remember that a certain git command doesn't even take paths...

But the path is the first argument here :) And it doesn't take -- https://git-scm.com/docs/git-worktree … It was a third party script before. The options stayed the same due to compatibility requirements.
