I dont think eliminated is a good word I dont think the things you mention are just introduced to be "eliminated"
I think the key point here is "very real applications". Those "real applications" are precisely the solutions which are not complex, because the complex terms have been eliminated.

We need to be careful about the difference between Real solutions and real applications. But more importantly, maths does not have to be useful in the real world anyway I disagree these things "only exist to be eliminated"

One could probably say any artifact that relies on quantum theory (say lasers) is a real-world use of something that seems to require complex numbers. https://arxiv.org/abs/2101.10873 (cant quickly find a better reference but this looks ok)
