Not minimizing your contribution and skills, Jon but I think it's truly terrible thing to have in Scala. Checked exceptions were perhaps in top3 the most hated features of Java for me.
I think that was because of the way you're forced to use them, though. Right now, I don't have enough detail on how they would work in Scala (and Martin has promised that), so I think we need to wait and see. We can assume that Scala won't adopt Java's same approach, though.

Right, in a sense, Rust has Result, which I suppose you could say is a form of checked exception (though not a true exception), and it's quite pleasant to use
