I've written a lesson on ScalaZONE about character encodings. If you're an experienced programmer, don't read it! Just try to answer the four questions at the end. Did you get them right? https://scala.zone/courses/scala-intermediate/concepts/encodings …

Q 1 and 2 have zero correct answers according to the site. Might want to fix that & throw away results so far. Pretty sure I got them right the first time though before enumerating the other answers. The last two questions work. Used Firefox on mobile with anti-tracking add-ons.

What do you mean? I got correct answers here in the end. Like technically it doesn't accept any answers? Or none of the answers are conceptually correct?

Nice! Got 1 and 3, missed the cue on 4 and could’ve maybe guessed 2.

Got the last 2 (they are more language agnostic, I don't have much experience fighting with encodings in Scala, luckily). Could have guessed the first if I had realised multiples were allowed 🤣

Yeah, they're all language agnostic really, except for the fact that Scala (well, Java) doesn't give you as much help as it really ought to because it chooses system-specific defaults.

3/4, not too bad. If there’s something similar between Java and JavaScript that is both use UTF16 strings - which is a PITA, but also an educational opportunity when you need to implement a language server in UTF8-native environment 🙂
