I've been Scala engineer for 7 years. Frankly I think Scala missed the opportunity to replace Python. Kotlin has better chances to win hearts of data/analytics community.

Do you think the opportunity was really there? I'm sure there could have been more focus on using Scala in data science, but I have doubts that any amount of insight into Scala's potential could have been translated into actual adoption of the language. There's a lot of inertia.
