Should we record and publish talks at online conferences?

This isn't going to be popular but I don't think so. Physical conferences have an advantage over videos: the physical aspect, which definitely adds something. Remote conferences have basically nothing on videos. No incentive to attend the conf. Except if it's a one off thing.
I was wondering why anyone would choose "no", but you've given a good reason. But if the same talk is given at a different conference (which does publish the video) then it's disadvantageous to the conference organisers that people will watch the other version rather than theirs.

Yes - once the talk is given, it's burnt. It's frustrating for the kind of speakers that have to work really hard at their content because it doesn't come naturally to them - not your problem, clearly, but very much mine.

It also makes me feel like such a diva when I try and give a talk at meetups (I absolutely need these to make sure the content works as well out of my mouth as inside my head) and have to ask them not to publish the video, because conferences will then refuse the talk...
