Right now, there seems to be a general lack of awareness about how offputting a community dominated by angry, middle-aged, white men looks. Sure, I'm all of those things too. But I'd like people to say least have some hope that it doesn't have to be this way.

Straddling the line *is* counterproductive, though I'm not sure how to get out of that, given the state we're in.

I'm looking for things we should be able to agree on: no ad hominems, precision in criticism, charitability of interpretation... but even these are seen as contentious now, because they've become associated with one "side" or the other.

Communities are made of different people with different mindsets and yet they can work together. Even within the same community, multiple competing libraries can exist. Let's not use what's happening as a general rule to show that people can't work together. That's not the case.

Most people work very well together, I agree. Which makes it all the more frustrating: we have more in common than we have separating us. I just meant to disagree with Nicholas's point that "it can't be both": it is both, and we need to find a way to work with it being both.

It's really hard to be tolerant of other's approaches when they contribute to your own burnout. We've told JdG multiple times that what he does is hurtful and not okay, but he hasn't changed his behaviour at all. I've tried to be tolerant for a very long time, but at some point..
