Yes or no question, @propensive: do you agree with De Goes that the author of this passage isn’t a white supremacist, and that this isn’t hate speech? pic.twitter.com/VPSbXHpsXT

It’s amazing he had time for that whole thread but not a simple “yes of course that quote is racist and is clear white supremacy”

Yes, of course that quote is racist, and is clear white supremacy. For what it's worth, I didn't really have time to answer a demand from Travis, alongside rude private messages, on a Friday afternoon before a weekend away without a reliable internet connection.

So you agree that when De Goes wrote "[Yarvin] has never written any hate speech" and "He is not a white supremacist", he was defending a white supremacist? Because that's literally what he is threatening to sue me for writing.

I haven't seen anything which suggests John knew about it. The two quotes were several years apart, and I don't know how reasonable it is to expect someone to know what Yarvin wrote. I do, at least, think John should have had a better idea before claiming that.

With all due respect, The Strange Loop drama happened in June 2015. If you would only have typed his name on Google at the time of the 2016 invite, you would have been bombarded by things like this: https://slate.com/technology/2015/06/curtis-yarvin-booted-from-strange-loop-its-a-big-big-problem.html … Impossible to throw a "haben es nicht gewußt” card here.

It was an honest "not sure" rather than "surely not". You would be reasonable to request an answer to this.

FWIW all of the other (non-De Goes) people in the 2016 Typelevel-De Goes email thread I mentioned have signed off on publishing it in its entirety (I probably won't get around to it until much later today, but I can post a link here when it's up).https://twitter.com/travisbrown/status/1287662685287571458 …

I have a March 2016 thread with emails between De Goes and the Typelevel admins (this was before I quit) where similar passages are directly quoted, and pages including that quote are linked. I'm happy to add these emails to the documentation if that'd help.

Agree. Especially since it seemed to be an invite for a subject (Urbit) no (large) conference talks have been about besides the cancelled "Strange Loop" one. As an outsider, the only conclusion I can find to invite someone with such a history is to counter the SL decision.

Accepting money from something like this (and who's behind it): https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/save-lambdaconf-and-an-open-society--3# … to ensure you can still give someone like that a platform without going broke and suing someone for pointing that out are debatable practices.
