“Yes or no” was too hard.pic.twitter.com/AXaXS75xD5
It’s amazing he had time for that whole thread but not a simple “yes of course that quote is racist and is clear white supremacy”
Yes, of course that quote is racist, and is clear white supremacy. For what it's worth, I didn't really have time to answer a demand from Travis, alongside rude private messages, on a Friday afternoon before a weekend away without a reliable internet connection.
So you agree that when De Goes wrote "[Yarvin] has never written any hate speech" and "He is not a white supremacist", he was defending a white supremacist? Because that's literally what he is threatening to sue me for writing.
I haven't seen anything which suggests John knew about it. The two quotes were several years apart, and I don't know how reasonable it is to expect someone to know what Yarvin wrote. I do, at least, think John should have had a better idea before claiming that.
we made SURE he know how racist this guy was. and This was on the heel of the when strangeloop had already, of course, publicly went through this... The thing that kills me is that he polled the URM scheduled speakers to see if they felt uncomfortable with Yarvin Speaking
I can't answer for him, but I'm judging him on the behavior that's completely contrary to the accusation, which I've witnessed extensively and exclusively, plus his attachment to libertarianism and freedom of speech, which I consider a political choice.
please realize that you saying saying "but he's been so sweet whenever I've been with him", is worth nothing, there are hundreds of people that might be willing to offer such a thing up.... This isn't about you, or the people you've "witnessed extensively and exclusively"
I disagree that it's worth nothing. The complete absence of evidence is still a datapoint. We must have been to about 30 conferences together, and literally nothing about John's interactions with other people suggests he's anything other than friendly and welcoming to everyone.
I agree that that is still not proof of anything, but I have to make judgements on incomplete evidence, and I see much less of most other people, and it's frankly harder to know how I should see them, than how I should see John.
I have also had several video calls with John over the last two months about a charitable project we are working on together to support developers in Africa, which I have been thinking about since January 2018, and which John has encouraged me to pursue.
In all of these conversations, he's been genuinely committed and thorough in the details, and practical considerations to maximise the positive impact. I can't help but base my judgement on this experience of working with him.
What's the relation between this and what Travis wrote last year? What is the relation with this, for example?https://medium.com/@soniagupta504/bigotry-and-its-amplifiers-a-response-to-lambdaconf-e30577b396c …
