Interesting idea! Stenography was teh tech iirc? I thought this was a solved problem: Embed data in image; even robust to a bit of noise
I'm sure there are a few ways to do it. The amount of data required is quite small (signed tweet ID), then very trivial OCR could check the text in the screenshot, and see if it matches the text referenced by the tweet ID.
