      That's my question now. How/when did John defend this? It's a pretty clear "do not touch" situation. I'd be impressed if John found a way to defend it.

      1) Folks have aked if I was defending PaulP or not. Upon reflection, I should have defended him more. We've had a lengthy in person conversation about these topics, he clearly isn't racist, we share many similar values. Long form comm. should trump out of context tweets.

      2) I was and still am worried that people I greatly admire and respect such as @posco , @LukaJacobowitz , @pitopos will judge me from sharing my experiences with him, so I was afraid. This kind of fear isn't good for the community. I think we want more voices, not less.

      The frustrating thing here is: how you present things matters and he puts forth an image that looks very hostile in those tweets. It’s sad to me that your take is “I need to defend vocally hostile white men more”.

      My take was: "I need to defend myself against the accusation that I've chosen to be friends with a racist". That's on me. I'm not going to let that go. It's not true.
