I'm not aware of any of Paulp's past aside from his Scala rants. What I have to go on are the tweets in front of me, which are explainable as "edgelord co-opts the rhetorical style of bigots and race-baiting trolls to invite debate". I'd like to see more if you have it.

I don't think that's an "explanation", though, in any justifying sense. He's an adult with a central place in the community (if only because of his scalac contributions), and I know specific, real people who have left or avoided the community because of this kind of behavior.

What “background” do you mean? I’ve posted the screenshots and links I have at hand, which are fairly self-contained and explanatory, and I’ve said I’ll ask around for more. Also sure, maybe “defend” isn’t the right word, I should have said “minimize” or “downplay”, I guess.
