Polish has a saying, "if someone gives you a horse, don't check its teeth". This is clearly a direct parallel of the English idiom, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth," but a darned sight less ambiguous. /cc @rentalcustard

They are uncommon now in high German. And slightly negative. But in dialects and older times that might have been different.
