One of the huge wins for Markdown is that it exposes the stylistic intent of the author clearly, while only slightly compromising presentation. It's a shame that Slack didn't realise that when they switched to a WYSIWYG editor.

I'm really not sure why they didn't, though, because undesirable styling metadata hidden in text is still prevalent in virtually every word processor and email client in use, and even after about three decades of this, we're still suffering the irritation of that legacy daily.
