Question for a medical doctor: could a single ventilator be adapted with some additional tubes to ventilate two people in parallel?

Yes... that's not too surprising. I would only really see it as an alternative to letting a patient die due to a paucity of ventilators. But you wouldn't want it to result in the death of both if one could be saved, of course...
