I just landed in Dubai to see the thin crescent of the moon, low in the sky, with—as I'm close to the equator—its tips almost aligned to the horizontal... like the grinning mouth of some fantastical but invisible creature. How apt on the 200th anniversary of John Tenniel's birth.
It still rises in the East and sets in the West... but via the North or South, depending on where you are. It subtly confused me on my first trip to the Southern Hemisphere.

I can imagine. Actually had to mentally visualise that for a second. Recently went to Caribbean for first time and saw an entirely new patch of the night sky (14’) and was initially confused, took some orientation...
