Slovak term is pomaranč. Which is an orange(colour) apple.
It's like Polish! But are you sure the "-aranč" was established as a colour which was then applied to the apple, and not the other way round? Is a Slovak apple not something like "jablko"? Could it be that it was taken more directly and wholly from French, "pomme d'orenge"?

Yes. You're right in every point. I'm no expert in this area but I'm pretty sure it's from french. It sounds very similar to "pomme orange"
