"Do not congregate in chokepoints because it prevents people from moving through them" is not a complicated principle and I do not understand why people so commonly fail to follow it.

I don't accept inherentness as an excuse. Spatial awareness is inherently difficult for me, so I had to learn this the hard way. People who don't have that excuse aren't struggling against some difficulty, they're just being dicks who don't care about their impact on others.
I'm equally incredulous that people can get to the top of an escalator and not even consider that they might need to move out the way or check behind them lest they cause someone a minor injury. My only explanation is that parts of their brains really just don't work properly.

But spatial empathy is basically below the threshold of something that evolution would select for.

I do my small part to select for it by deliberately inconveniencing people when they fail to exhibit it.
