That particular pattern is an instant hard “nope!” from me on any tool. An action I can’t see without a mouse simply doesn’t exist.

I'm trying to wean myself off Vim this decade, so I'm prepared to forgive VS Code for a while on the basis that maybe this isn't something I should care about too much... but yes; deep down, I agree with you.

The idea behind this choice in particular could be that it's quite easy to discover this capability and you would soon be aware of it without adding unnecessary weight to the UI. But it could probably make sense to make this configurable.
