I know, I also prefer "optimize" over "optimise" any day, especially when that annoying red line appears under the word.

I normally optimize for my American audience anyway! Though I hypothesize that the use of -ize rather then -ise is the original spelling, and the British naturalised -ise, while the US standardized -ize. Still, one "size" fits all.
