If people coding in @rustlang are Rustaceans... are we who code in @scala_lang Escalators?

Coincidentally, I was talking to a friend on Thursday night, and both scallops and escalators featured heavily in the conversation.

Recently I learned that in Italian an escalator is "Scala mobile" - which is exactly what I'm doing, coding the Android app at Wire.

How viable is coding for Android using Scala, by the way?

Good and bad at once. In some Scala is perfect: very easy to write reactive code, much more FP than Kotlin. But we lack support, we still use 2.11, and we had to hack Gradle. I'm going to write more about it soon.

I would be interested to read about it! Not so much because I want to write any Android apps, but I'm just vaguely interested in it.

I can only judge people by my own standards when it comes to timescales... ;)
