I'm staying in a motel in Utah tonight. On the table is an upturned, white, approximately three-litre, plastic bowl, beneath which is a transparent bag, all atop a beige plastic tray which is screwed (with a single screw) to the table. It can rotate. But what does it all mean?

My theories: The white bucket is for getting ice from the machine down the hall. The rotating tray is unrelated: it's a platform for mounting a CRT TV so it can be rotated and watched from various places in the room.
I'm starting to believe this icebucket theory, now that about 0.03% of my Twitter followers have suggested it! The tray may be unrelated, indeed. And I'll hold judgement on your CRT suggestion, though I can say that the room probably hasn't been redecorated since CRTs...
