I don't often do it, but that particular tweet hit a nerve. I'm trying to help to build a friendly community, and I think that calling out unkind behavior when I see it is an important part of that. My options for discouraging the original tweeter (and his friends) are limited...

I've thought about the best ways to use the influence afforded to me, and I decided to try to encourage people to be friendly, tolerant and objective in how they see things, and to understand uncertainty and nuance. I know I don't fit into a box, but I do think about what I say.
That came from a realisation that some people do actually listen to me, and that I should try my best to find a message which I believe in, which benefits the community I care about most.
