I don't often do it, but that particular tweet hit a nerve. I'm trying to help to build a friendly community, and I think that calling out unkind behavior when I see it is an important part of that. My options for discouraging the original tweeter (and his friends) are limited...

I’m guessing the person you quoted thinks that your approach to “building a friendly community” has been damaging and exclusionary, Jon, and they’re right, even if what they said wasn’t very nice.
I think that given the parameters of this community there's no single approach which excludes nobody: we have probably both been detrimental to different subsets. But I've tried to lead by example, and I've tried to resolve disputes, and I've tried to be welcoming to new members.

I know that my acceptance of
@jdegoes has been a problem for you especially, and maybe countless others, but I've tried at every step to be objective, consistent and proportionate in how I've handled him, even when that's meant taking a public stand and disagreeing with friends. -
