Traveling is tiring, even if you're sitting still most of the time. Little things like knowing the layout of an airport and being ready for the security checks make this easier, but that comes mostly with experience.
I ended up doing too much in the end, but one thing I learned to do was to try to get really good sleep in before and after the conference. I would usually be surviving on 5-6 hours of sleep over the conference days themselves.
