I haven't written any code in whitespace-significant Scala 3 yet, but I'm warming to the idea. I might have a go at converting some of my existing code later this week, then maybe I can report back on my experience.

Having not really ever used an IDE (despite starting to appreciate Metals a bit recently), I hope I'll be able to give an account which is independent of any tooling presumptions.

The approach of allowing both styles on a per block basis is especially good: enabling withing forcing. That's remarkable!

I'm vaguely uneasy about mixing styles, but I need to try it to know if that concern is unfounded.

What’s the compelling reason for white space dependency? I’m not a fan of white space, feels like could be a source of evil.

I think there isn't a *compelling* reason so much as some slight readability benefits...

I suppose you will only have a meaningful experience to evaluate this if you do it on a code basis you share with 5-10 other developers (with possibly varying editor settings)

my idea on that is it will waste (and already wastes) immense resources in discussion and will made teaching even harder: https://twitter.com/fanf42/status/1169892439013777408 … On the other hand, we really need a very good code formater with default style included in sbt/scalac

Latest Dotty (0.18.1rc1) includes the "significant indentation" syntax alternative. Independently of the fact that it is better or not, I believe it would the biggest error possible for the ecosystem and a *huge* waste of resources: https://github.com/lampepfl/dotty/pull/7083#issuecomment-528765780 … /cc @odersky

and this is linked of the scala (and esp. Scala 2 - >3) context, not the inherent value of the proposed style (which I think I prefer in most cases)
