@propensive Jon, I understood you're somehow local to the region where #scalaworldconf happens. Could you please recommend us, if we (just by accident, of course 
) booked our flying tickets for a week earlier, what definitely not to miss there? 
I'm not really a local...but I would suggest: - hike whenever the weather is good - visit villages of Grasmere and Ambleside or Keswick - if you can get to a Edinburgh, do: the Fringe Festival is on all month - take a trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale railway - drive around a lot!

Well, I'll keep Edinburgh for next time, now the plan is to discover the Lake District (with exception of Hadrians wall). Hope the weather will sit 'cause we plan to hike to Blencathra and Langdale Pikes

The Langdale Pikes are great! Try to hike up to Stickle Tarn then turn left at the top. I'd also suggest hiking from Grasmere up to Easedale, or Brothers' Water up Dovedale. We will be hiking from Buttermere to Borrowdale on Saturday 31st August.
