There were quite a lot of women there, actually, at least by the standards we're accustomed to at meetups. A few of the people I chatted to afterwards were women. This photo was taken about ten minutes before I started speaking, so it's not the whole audience.

It's not that good, though. The gender distribution of every meetup I've ever done is incredibly imbalanced, but modulo my poor memory, I think it's better, on average, than it was five years ago.

The gender bais is cultural. While that makes overcoming it in cultures where it is deeply rooted very challenging, it provides great hope when you see places where it doesn't exist or is less significant.
