I wouldn't say "shitty" adopters but I think maintainers have tendency to be too accomodating e.g. supporting old scala versions or adding Serializable everywhere because of Spark ...

Last time I tried to release Goggles, all the plugins & latest versions of everything didn't work together, it pushed a version bump but failed to deploy to Sonatype. Life's too short for the sbt pain zone, I'd rather stay in the shallow end

Fury may be a perfect solution which could help you tomorrow, when you're considering dropping 2.12 support, but it's not going to help today. It's just not ready yet. But to emphasise the first point, this is exactly the sort of problem Fury is intending to solve in the future.
