A good contribution to bloop and the JVM community as a whole would be a Scala/Java implementation of Nailgun. The python/C clients are great/fast for short-lived CLI sessions, but there are also other tooling use cases that require communications between Java processes.
We have noticed that the Python version is really slow. It takes about 150ms to invoke, particularly noticeable with Fury's tab completion. We've recently switched to compiling the C version during the installation process, only falling back to Python if no compiler's available.

Agreed. I just wish the C version was as portable as the python script. However, a big problem with the C version is that it doesn't work via local sockets/named pipes and that the implementation is not fully up-to-date with Python's.
