Coproducts do work in most situations - see the unit tests in the avro4s codebase but sometimes it breaks and I don't know how to fix. I'd use something like Magnolia, but in order to support all the various Avro options I need access to annotations - can Magnolia provide those?
I've not used this feature, but @thecoda implemented it, and I believe it works! There is also Adversaria (https://github.com/propensive/adversaria/ …) which allows you to access annotations as typeclasses.
