I'm starting to wonder if I'm misusing the phrase "gateway drug"... ;) I never thought they were the same, just that learning Polish grammar and vocabulary might be an enabler for more readily understanding Russian, coming from a Germanic & romance linguistic background.

Yeah, gateway drug implies a bunch of stuff about both things being compared. Enabler could work ;)

I didn't get any of this subtext... Maybe because in my analogy, Scala = Polish, and I'm currently addicted (well, sort of) to both.
