      Hackage is the gold standard we should aim to. However, hackage, unlike sonotype, does not handle binary artifacts. (At least last I checked) this does add a bit of complexity. Still, doesn't explain sonotype's wackiness

      There's a nonzero chance we will shift to source dependencies indexed by commit hash (see @propensive's Fury tool) which has the potential to relieve us of a bunch of nonsense. Perhaps in exchange for different nonsense. Remains to be seen.
