there isn't a friendly place run by crooked orgs just like there aren't friendly people who just bully "that one guy no one likes anyways". you'd be living a lie. making the place attractive to more people just gives the bullies more prey to prowl upon.https://twitter.com/propensive/status/1085780937105846273 …

but you brought up the case where you reached out to people giving you a bit of stress. that doesn't apply here. the power dynamic is completely different. this is why i inferred you don't understand the nature of oppressive situations.

personally, I've soured somewhat on initiating the kind of private conversations you suggest, after I've repeatedly had out-of-context snippets of those private conversations end up shared in public :-/ but I'm very glad when others step in and talk to people in CoC trouble

I know, of course, from the times we've talked about it. I don't blame you for being despondent. If possible, I'd like others to engage on behalf of moderators, too. One way or another, I think one-on-one discussions where neither party is canvassing to an audience are important.

also, requiring these kinds of extensive personal conversations as a part of moderation makes moderation literally 10x more time-consuming than it would be otherwise. it's only practical to a point, past that point others need to step in

that's why they should be public, even if post-facto
