I'm just describing what I see, and trying to suggest the best way people can make the most progress with what we have. I would be fully supportive of anything which improves it, but for as long as that doesn't exist, I'm trying to find the best way to work with what's there.
I don't hang out there either, but I think having conversations shut down is still very rare.

that's bad in its own right, a healthy community gets a whole lot of trolls, and shutting those conversations down is part of taking care of the community.

Unfortunately, it's very hard to distinguish between trolling behaviour and good faith. It requires a lot of context. In @fpmortals's case, there are people convinced both ways. There's nothing clearcut about it when different people think it's clearcut in two different ways.
