Ok, so I'd agree that the equivalence of my Brexit example to @fpmortals's situation might have been a stretch. But what about when you can reasonably predict the expected outcome of that third option of fighting for justice?

That's a good point. I more or less don't care about being right so much as finding the best answer. I'm not sure that's the entirety of "dignity", though...
And I might be assuming that other people can let go of their beliefs as trivially as I can.

I didn't explain this point well, in hindsight. I meant to say that I try to be open to giving up arguments I start off believing in, in the face of contradictory evidence that I'm wrong. I've noticed some other people tend, in contrast, to "double-down" when challenged.
