Then maybe they shouldn't serve as a moderator if they so vehemently disagree with the established norms of the place and try to change the fundamental setup from "place to talk about Scala" to "yet another heavily censored bubble for card-carrying community members".
I think it's too difficult to say what are "established norms", and we shouldn't pretend they're so very clear, and I think a goal of the moderators is to establish norms. It's a norm of society in general is that if someone annoys you frequently, you spend less time with them.
And people were annoyed by the nature and repetition of some things @fpmortals said in various forums. (And I'm deliberately choosing a weak reason here, because I believe it's highly nuanced, and it's no more than annoyance.) So the ban is the blunt tool to be less annoyed.
But I'll say again that I'm not trying to justify the ban. I don't think it was deserved, and I don't find @fpmortals anywhere near as annoying as other people seem to, but they had reasons for banning them, and I want people to understand them even if they don't agree with them.
