I read the responses, and nobody has really said it yet, but it's pretty obvious to me that the quality of the software would improve. Some new features might take longer to implement once they're pushing against the limit, but the surface area for bugs would be much reduced.

Yes, but they do prevent some bugs. Like remembering to set all the needed HTTP headers correctly, even those with a spelling mistake in the spec ;-)
