Anyone in the US still awake and knows how to deal with a potential immigration problem? A friend (with a student visa) may be stuck or detained in the airport.

sorry Lars! And everyone else who was worried! They eventually let me leave. My school accidentally terminated my student status. And it took the immigration office a long time to sort out/ prove my status, since it was Sunday night.
It depends on the airport, but it's a separate room, and I'm not allowed to talk or use my phone.
